Julia van Leeuwen works as a lawyer on cases involving intellectual property (copyright and trademark law), media law, and civil procedural law. She supports companies and creators in protecting and enforcing intellectual property rights, as well as in resolving commercial disputes.
Digitisation and AI in legal practice
As a member of the Digitisation & AI Project Group of the Dutch Bar Association, board member of the Dutch Association for AI and Robot Law (NVAIR), member of the Association of AI Lawyers (VAI-A), and AI trainer for lawyers and legal professionals, among others, Julia van Leeuwen closely follows developments in (generative) AI in the legal field.
She advises on contractual provisions relating to AI, with a particular focus on the creative sector, where questions about the use of AI are becoming increasingly relevant.
Julia regularly publishes content on the website, LinkedIn, and Instagram, and speaks in an interactive and enthusiastic way about AI-related topics, keeping clients and other interested parties up to date with the latest developments. She provides presentations and training sessions for, among others, law firms and notary offices, the Professional Training Programme for Lawyers, the legal department of PwC, legal professionals at the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, as well as creators and cultural organisations in the creative sector. She has also been a guest on several podcasts.
International orientation
With a bilingual upbringing in Dutch and Polish culture and international experience in China and Dubai, among other places, Julia brings a unique international perspective. As an active member of the International Association of Young Lawyers (AIJA), she has an extensive international network, which enables her to effectively address cross-border issues.
Expertise in intellectual property and civil procedural law/litigation
Julia advises and litigates on behalf of companies involved in intellectual property and/or civil disputes. Her practice focuses on copyright and trademark law, for example in cases of (alleged) infringement, enforcement and disputes concerning the use of brand names, logos, images, designs and other creative works.
In addition, she advises entrepreneurs and companies on civil procedural law issues, such as shareholder disputes (including before the Enterprise Chamber), commercial disputes, the interpretation of contractual provisions and matters relating to directors’ liability.
Julia works in a practical, to-the-point manner with a personal approach: first getting to the heart of the matter, then choosing a strategy that suits the commercial interests, whether that means tough negotiations or proceeding with legal action if necessary.
